The Organic initiatives of Destitute Women’s Upliftment Society (DWUS) and its components such as Organic certification & Production units have been promoted and sponsored partly by the Spices Board of India (Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India). Initial projects of the DWUS have been promoted by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi.

DWUS has links with many farmers in the state. Our other activities such as setting up of village libraries in villages, tree plantation activities, etc. has enabled us to gain trust and faith with many marginal farmers. This gives us the opportunity to avail ample resources on the path to accessing the organic consumer.

We are presently upgrading our processing capacity by installing a number of drying units designed by Spices Board of India as well as two state of the art Solar Drying units using patented SOLARWALL technology. This is being implemented by M/s Ereipak Agro Resources Trade House (EARTH), promoted by DWUS. These two units, expected to commence from February 2006, would expand our processing capacity by drying approximately 6000 kgs of fresh ginger, turmeric and other spices and products per batch over and above our current capacity. The products would be a great improvement to our products already exported by merchant exporters.

Sri Mata Bio Source has now joined hands with DWUS in becoming Co-Partners to help promote the Organic produce of DWUS both in Domestic and International market.

The proposed steps are coming to reality from the sponsored projects of SFAC and Spice Board (Government of India undertakings).

Presently our area is certified from Skal International (Control Union group) of The Netherlands for 189 hectares of Organic cultivation. Where we cultivate and process:

  • Spices — Ginger, high curcumin turmeric, chili (so far the hottest with an average Scoville Heat Unit of + 450,000 and with a capsaicin of 2.8 %), large cardamom (black), & spice products such as ginger oil, ginger candy etc.
  • Fruits — Pineapple (our pineapples have more fructose than any other cultivated part of India), banana, passion fruit
  • Medicinal herbs which are gifts of God to our region by Mother Nature. Situated in the top ten bio-diversity “hot spots” of the world, we are home to above 400 varieties of orchids alone, and also more than 5,000 varieties of flora.
  • Cereals and pulses including traditional variety rice (black rice), black sesame etc.
